Multilocus sequence typing of Mycobacterium xenopi.
Mycobacterium xenopi is an opportunistic mycobacterial pathogen of increasing clinical importance. Surveillance of M. xenopi is hampered by the absence of tools for genotyping and molecular epidemiology. In this study, we describe the development and evaluation of an effective multilocus sequence typing strategy for M. xenopi.

BACKGROUND Owing to its low incidence, the management of Mycobacterium xenopi pulmonary infections is not clearly defined. A multicentre retrospective study was performed to describe the features of the disease and to evaluate its prognosis. METHODS All patients with M xenopi satisfying the 1997 ATS/IDSA criteria from 13 hospitals in north-east France (1983-2003) were included in the study. C...
متن کاملClinical review of pulmonary disease caused by Mycobacterium xenopi.
Mycobacterium xenopi comprised 56% of all non-tuberculous mycobacteria isolated in the Brompton Hospital laboratory during six years. M xenopi alone was cultured from the sputum of 23 patients, whose clinical and bacteriological features are reviewed. Pulmonary disease was considered to be due to the organism present in 15 of these patients on the basis of strict criteria for a causal relations...
